Hanisah_Headshot.jpgOn Saturday, August 11, Hanisah Binte Abdullah Sani, a PhD candidate in sociology and a recipient of a 2018-2019 Dissertation Grant from the Center for International Social Science Research, presented at the American Sociological Association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia. Her presentation, “From Traditional Rule to Professional Experts: the Growth of New Religious Elites in British Malaya,” highlighted aspects of her dissertation research on why conflicts between religious and secular courts become politicized and even turn violent in some states more than in others.
